Why SEO (still) Matters

Praying to the Google Gods

SEO is usually lost on most folks. Scarcely do I come across an individual who actually knows what I’m referring to. “CEO?” No, I wish – it is SEO. Even some people supposedly in the industry have no clue what optimizing a website actually means. Charlatans, yep, they exist in all fields.  Sometimes it’s increasingly difficult to relay the importance of proper search engine optimization to those you’re trying to help or work with. I understand. It can be really, really hard to “get.” It’s unknown territory to most. Half the time I need to convince people I’m more than just a glorified spammer.

SEO has and will continue to play a pivotal role in your digital marketing efforts. There are over 3.5 billion searches each day on Google. Organic traffic makes up 64% of all traffic to websites. These are huge numbers that are likely to climb as more of our devices gain access to the internet. There is ample opportunity to benefit from this. So, clients, bosses, and co-workers it is imperative that you understand why we may come off as annoying, picky, fussy, and critical – wanting you to fix every broken link, adjust the anchor text, fix your title tags, etc. etc. The little things add up!

If you are someone who is unfamiliar with the term SEO and want to know about it, the following lines may be of great help to you.

What does SEO stand for?

The term SEO refers to Search Engine Optimization, which is a technique used to bring a particular website to the top of search results as soon as a certain keyword or phrase is entered into any search engine, like Google, Yahoo or Bing. But, seriously, no one really cares about Yahoo or Bing.

Why do you need to optimize your site for Search Engines?

Since there are hundreds of new sites uploaded (most are god-awful) on the internet every other minute from people living across the globe, chances are your website will just be lost in the jungle of websites. How in the world, then, will you make sure that your new website will maximize visitors and increase conversions? Well, the answer lies in devising and implementing an effective SEO campaign for your website. Once you are able to do that you will surely benefit from the following:

  • More Traffic – one of the major advantages of following an effective SEO strategy is that you will notice an increase in the number of visitors on your website.
  • Better Conversion – once you are able to enjoy more traffic on your website, you will be in a better position to turn these new visitors into your regular customers. SEO offers better conversion of visitors into loyal customers.
  • More Sales – when your visitors start converting into regular customers, you will surely enjoy additional sales.
  • More Profits – more sales obviously lead to better profits.
  • Better Visibility – a strategically designed and implemented SEO campaign can enhance your website’s visibility across various search engines and therefore can offer more exposure to your products and services.
  • Cost Effective – unlike the other traditional marketing and advertising tools and techniques, search engine optimization is much cheaper and cost effective.
  • Better ROI – with an effective search engine optimization, you enjoy a better return on your investment.
  • Round the Clock – unlike other marketing methods, the search engine technique is constantly at work. Whether you are up or sleeping, you do not have to worry about it.
  • Long Term Benefits – once you are able to follow an effective SEO campaign, you will secure the rewards for a long time to come.
  • Beat your Competitors – with an effective SEO campaign, you can easily gain an advantage over your competitors and pull all the traffic to your website.

A website that is improperly optimized might as well not exist at all. It does not matter how attractively designed, modern, sophisticated or cutting edge your website is. Aesthetics will not bring people in. If your website is not located or discovered by your potential visitors, what’s the point?
